Summertime in Aspen has been described as one of the most ideal places on this great green orb to enjoy human outdoor activities. Why you say? Well I'll tell you my furry friend!
Having the good fortune to have lived here for 29 summers in this hedonistic Mountain Mecca, there are so many Aspen summer outdoor activities to choose from you might have to hire a personal assistant for advice on which one to do first! Yes, you can hire such a person, but if you pay close attention to this article you can save yourself a few bones on an assistant and buy a new set of sand wedges or half-day guided fly fishing excursion!
Aspen summer activities are enumerable but include: walking & hiking the many trails in the area; fishing Gold Metal trout streams; whitewater rafting the Colorado River, golfing at the Aspen Golf and Tennis Club, people-watching in the downtown Aspen mall; listening to internationally-acclaimed musicians at the Aspen Music Festival, appetizers at Mezzaluna; shopping the many upscale retail stores, such as Prada and Burberrys; resting in the sunshine; having a beer at the J-Bar; and the list goes on and on
Let's focus on TWO activities- golf and fishing. The Aspen area is becoming quite the golf destination these days and has long been a premier trout fishing area.
There are ten golf courses within a one hour drive of Aspen: Aspen Golf Club, Snowmass Golf Club, Maroon Creek Golf Club, Roaring Fork Golf Club, River Valley Ranch Golf Club, Ranch at Roaring Fork (9 holes), Aspen Glen Country Club, Iron Bridge Golf Course, Glenwood Springs Golf Course, and Lakota Canyon Golf Club in Newcastle. You can't get on most of these courses unless you know someone, but I'm sure a creative person like yourself can handle that!
If fishing is your thing, the Aspen area offers many options for world-class gold metal trout fishing. The Roaring Fork River flows directly through the town of Aspen and is comprised of miles of premier fishing waters. A short 20 minute drive from Aspen gets you to the Frying Pan River. This renowned stretch of stream offers some of the best trout habitat in North America. It is also one of the more uniquely beautiful valleys in Colorado. The Colorado River is also a great place to fish for larger trout and other swimming species. There are daily fishing trips to all the local hot spots based out of Aspen during the summer.
